Sydney is a very lucky city, with an awesome CBD, thriving cultural scene and incredible coastline, there’s not much it can’t deliver – especially when it comes to enjoying your public holidays! Those extra days can creep up on you a little, so this year, why not plan ahead and schedule some amazingly fun activities and outings? You’ll skip out on the last minute scuttle to put something together and you’re probably going to end up doing something that you’ve always wanted to do but never quite got round to doing, so it’s definitely worth the extra planning! Here are a few perfect activities to get you out and enjoying yourself on some of the biggest days of the year…
New Year’s Day
Now, we’re all usually feeling somewhat tender when New Year’s Day comes around, but that doesn’t mean you should waste a day off in the summertime! A perfect way to nurse a sore head or tired little ones’ moods is to head for a relaxing day out at the beach. Be sure to pick a shaded spot or bring along your sun umbrella to keep you protected and hydrated throughout the day. Spend your afternoon splashing in the water and snoozing on the sand. If you like the idea of a beachside picnic, head to spots such as Bronte Beach, Clontarf and Shelley Beach to get access to community barbeques – just remember to book them in ahead of time!
Australia Day
Australia Day can be a stressful and hectic day, so if you plan on celebrating it’s really best to get planning ahead of time. If you’re looking for an exciting, easy way to spend the day with your family, close friends or loved ones, you should absolutely consider looking into an Australia Day cruise. You’ll float out on the harbour, in the sunshine with the city’s best landmarks as your backdrops. Get a front-row seat to the ferry race, musical events and general merriment whilst you soak up all that this beautiful city has to offer.
Easter Weekend
Easter weekend can be a tricky one depending on when it falls. If you have children, consider heading to the Royal Botanical Gardens for an amazing Easter Egg Hunt that’s fun for the whole family. Parents can enjoy a beverage whilst making lovely memories with the whole family. Perhaps you’re looking for something more action-packed? The iconic Easter Fair is the perfect spot to head for a day full of fun, rides, shows and snacks – you never know, you might find you need to go more than once over your long weekend, there’s that much on offer!
Anzac Day
Head to your local dawn ceremony to pay your respects early this Anzac Day! This is a great way to acknowledge the day thoughtfully. If you’re spending the day with your family, try baking some Anzac cookies together whilst you watch a family favourite on the TV. If you want to hit the party scene, try hitting one of Sydney’s many heritage pubs in areas such as The Rocks or Balmain for general merriment and a cheeky game of Two-Up.
Boxing Day
Boxing day doesn’t just mean turkey sandwiches! Get up and out there to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart race, it’s an amazing spectacle and viewing points are usually full of family fun, sports and picnics.
New Year’s Eve
Is there anything better than a picnic under the fireworks on New Year’s Eve cruise? Set up nice and early to nab a perfect spot to one of the most exciting events of the year!
